Flower Care

Stock has a vase life of 5 to 8 days. To get the best out of stock, first of all remove all the bottom leaves, and make sure no foliage will sit in water. Recut the stems, remembering to cut above the woody base.  Then place into fresh water that has a flower food sachet in it. Do not ever bash the stems, this interrupts the flow of water to the flowers and shortens their vase life. Also change the water every couple of days, stock loves to sit in fresh water.

General Info

Stock is also known by its botanical name Matthiola Incana, it comes in gorgeous shades of white, cream, pinks, reds, lilacs, blues and purples. New colours of stock were bred in 16th century Saxony times, but each village was only allowed to grow one colour to ensure the shades remained distinct. There are both single and double varieties of Stock, however the double is the most desirable, and the variety that is commercially grown.
