Flower Care
These have a vase life of 5 to 8 days. Remove foliage from the bottom of the stems so there will be no greenery in the water, but be careful to not remove to much foliage as this can promote premature flower drop. Recut the stems under water and place into fresh water with flower food. To help promote longevity it is also a good idea to replace the water every two or three days. Stems are also geotropic, so as much as possible keep them upright prior to putting them in water.
General Info
Snapdragon were also referred to as calves snout, which refers to the snout like shape of the flowers, and in fact the scientific name Antirrhinum is greek for nose like. When gardens became popular in england these were some of the early favourites, at the time most flowers were grown for their medicinal purposes but research indicates that these were grown for their beauty. Snapdragons come in whites, variegated, reds, pinks and yellows.
