General Info
Although they only bloom in the summer months peonies can survive for a century or more if undisturbed. Peonies have always been a sought after flower even during medieval times, where they were a big part of monastery gardens. Peonies are a pretty flower coming in many gorgoeus frilly shades of white, coral, pinks, purples through to a deep red. Peonies are a common theme for a November wedding in New Zealand with many a bride choosing her wedding day to coincide with the Peony season. Peonies tend to grow better in colder climates so you won’t see many in North Island gardens but the South Islanders are lucky enough to be able to grow these gorgeous flowers in their gardens.
