Origin
Native to South Africa. Common relatives include the sunflower, daisy, chrysanthemum and lettuce.
Flower Care
These have a vase life of between 4 and 14 days. Gerbera’s love fresh water, so keep the water fresh, and the vase clean. They also benefit from flower food, so pop some of this in the water as well. Before you put them in a vase give them a clean fresh cut to ensure good water uptake. Gerbera’s tend to seal over the cut quickly, so once you have given them a fresh cut put them straight in clean water.
General Info
Gerbera’s come in both standard and mini sizes. They come in a myriad of shades, from white through to yellow, orange, pinks and reds, and have some amazing variegated varieties as well. Gerbera’s naturally turn their head towards the sun, and because they have a hollow and leafless stem it can be beneficial to wire them. However wiring does not increase their vase life.
