Amaryllis

Availability

From July through to Mid December

Origin

Native to subtropical South America. Common relatives include daffodil, alstromeria and nerines.

Flower Care

These have a vase life of 8 to 14 days. Last well in the vase once the flowers have opened. To get the most out of them recut the stems so there is a good clean cut, place in fresh water with a little bit of sugar. Keep your eye on the water level and change the water every few days.

General Info

Amaryllis is also referred to as the Naked Lady and is grown as both potted plants and cut flowers. They were originally named for a shepherdess in greek mythology.  Although these are native to South America, they were hybridised in Australia in the 1800′s and most cultivated types are now hybrids.
